CityNet in Västerås is an open network. This means there is free competition on equal terms within the network. Mälarenergi Stadsnät does not supply any services within its own network. That need is instead covered by most of Sweden’s major service providers such as Telia, Tele2, Bredband2, Viasat, Canal Digital and a number of smaller and local suppliers. CityNet today has more than 85 different household and company services to choose between. Everything from Internet services at different capacity levels, broadband telephony and broadband TV to alarm facilities, data backup, outsourcing, online gambling, video on demand and more. And the range keeps expanding.
The major advantage of an open network is that competition helps raise quality and lower prices. Today, CityNet in Västerås has among the lowest prices in the country. A 10 Mbit/s duplex link costs from 165 SEK a month.
